Same old business versus rookie startup

When it's business as usual, you're not growing or stretching yourself and this is how a lot of mature businesses operate. Many of these businesses are struggling.

When new businesses startup, they typically jump out with an idea or product based on current markets, but often lack business fundementals. Many of these businesses are struggling.

The successful work on both, business and current.  Business as usual just doesn't seem tohave the longevity it once did nor does fresh ideas alone.

Great ads can still suck for business - Honda ad featuring Ozzy song

Excerpted from my comments on Chuck's McKay's blog on how awesome this Honda Ad is not http://fishingforcustomers.com/your-favorite-tv-ad/

… I guess what I’m saying then, is this ad is likeable but not original, relevant but not focused, entertaining but not product centric, and catchy but not pervasive. No true resonating points, no real call to action and no new elements or offers. The agency work is competent and again, peers and those who buy ad agency services will like it, but the buyers of cars, they’ll just move along.

See the original post and my comments on an interesting breakdown of some great car ads and why they were effective and why the Honda ad Chuck is talking about is so enjoyable yet not effective.

Quiznos checkin promo, say what?

I'm having a tasty sub from Quiznos right now and thought I'd post this thru my handy smartphone. Why checkin via google instead of say foursquare or gowalla or fb places?

Can't see this being a solid marketing initiative.  Not enough traction on Google Latitude in my opinion and if you are the sort of person that checks in to places, your probably NOT doing it via latitude.

Right?
